  1. Residental Visa holders entering ROC -【Alien Resident Certificate】

    1. ARC will be the official Proof of Legal Identity in ROC.
    2. Residental Visa holders are require to apply for ARC online within either of the following period:
      • The day after entering ROC
      • Within 15 days of the Visa's date of issue
    3. The holder must extend the ARC within 30 days before the date of expiry.
    4. If one's ARC is overdue abroad, the holder should apply for Visa abroad and enter the country, then go to the service station to re-apply for the residence permit. The holder will be fined for the overdue residence permit and will be required to apply for a subsequent residence permit.
    5. If the ARC is lost, please bring along the application form , passport , photo , certificate of student status , and proof of report or declaration of Loss of Residence Permit to the immigration agency, and apply for a replacement.
    6. For Hong Kong and Macao Chinese students holding foreign passpost(s), please follow the foreign students' application procedure.
    7. If there is a change of residence address or passport, the holder should register within 15 days of the incident.

  1. Hong Kong and Macao passport holders - 【Taiwan Resident Entry and Exit Permit】

    1. Hong Kong and Macao student are required to apply for Taiwan Entry Permit before entering ROC. After completing a physical check-up, he/she are required to apply for Taiwan Resident Entry and Exit Permit.
    2. The holder must extend the ARC within 30 days before the date of expiry.

  1. National without Household Registration (無戶籍國民 NWOHR) -【Taiwan Area Resident Certificate】

    1. NWOHR should prepare the documents at one's country of residence, and enter ROC with an entry permit for studying. Then apply for Taiwan Area Resident Certificate (TARC) online after completing physical check-up.
    2. The holder must extend the ARC within 30 days before the date of expiry.

  4. Police Criminal Record Certificate from one's country of residence (with 6 months of validity). This is not required for under 20 years old.

  7. Letter of acceptance or Letter of distribution from the University Entrance Committee for Oversea Chinese Student
  8. Valid Entry Permit (Applicants who have entered the country legally, perferably with a Taiwan passport)
  9. Passport-sized colored photo taken within a year
  10. If you entrust others to send the documents on your behalf, a Letter of Attorney should be attached.
  11. Application fee: NT$500
  12. Approval Days: 10 Working Days

  1. Those who already are in hold of ARC when entering NTHU

    For those who already are in hold of a valid ARC when entering NTHU, eg. From Division of Preparatory Programs, please follow the below procedure: -

    1. Change of current university and residental address:
      Please provide the student card, lease contact or proof of residency, ARC, photo, and other documents to the Division of General Student Affair for changing the informations within 15 days of changing.
    2. You will be charged a fine if the information is not changed after 15 days!

Overseas Chinese students overstaying for 29 days or more will NOT be permitted to apply for a new ARC or extension.

Moreover, they have to pay the fine and emigrate from Taiwan for applying new visa for re‑entry, then re-apply for ARC after entering Taiwan.

  1. Procedures for overseas Chinese students leaving Taiwan after graduation

    • Overseas Chinese Student: After completing school leaving procedure, please proceed to the Immigration Agency for ARC cancellation and depart from Taiwan within 10 days. If you have special needs for staying in Taiwan, please apply for deferred departure at the Immigration Agency.
    • Hong Kong/Macau Student: After completing school leaving procedure, please proceed to the Immigration Agency for single exit permit, and depart from Taiwan within 10 days (return the ARC while applying for single exit permit). If you need to return to Hong Kong urgently, you could exit with current ARC, and return to the original Taiwan area resident and entry/exit certificate to the Hong Kong Taipei Economic and Cultural Office and forward it to the Immigration Agency for invalidation (bring along ARC, graduation certificate and statement of declaration). If you do not return your ARC after leaving the country, you will no longer be able to apply for a short stay permit or a tourist stay permit to enter Taiwan.
    • Graduated Overseas Chinese Students and Hong Kong/Macau students can apply for residence extension of employment with graduation certificate at the Immigration Agency

  2. Procedures for Overseas Chinese students to leave Taiwan after suspension or withdrawal from school

    • Overseas Chinese Student：Depart within 10 days after completion of suspension or withdrawal procedure
    • Hong Kong/Macau Student：Depart within 10 days after completion of single exit permit application at the Immigration Agency. (30 days during Covid-19 pandemic)
